“Eeeeee! Marie you’re adorable!!!” Sparky squealed, scooping
her up and cuddling her for all he was worth. Was he going to get
covered in blue paint? Probably, but it was so worth it. “Wind!
Wind take pictures for us too, please!!! Oh I missed having a munchkin
to play with!” Sparky planted an exuberant smooch on Marie’s forehead,
unable to contain his utter glee.

Wind shook his head at his successor, although he did whip out the
pictobox to snap a few pictures of the pair. This was going on the wall
back home, for sure.

“Huh? You ok there Cat Slime?” Wind asked when Inky’s pet squeaked at
him. “Uh… hey Twilight, think you can understand Slime in wolf form?”

image

“Aww, I don’t need ta change to figure that out. He just wants to
know she’s ok and come play too.” Twilight replied, having finished
repairing the cracks in the immediate vicinity. He knelt down and petted
the cat… slime… cat shaped slime… whatever he was on the head, and
gestured for him to come and play with Marie and Sparky, who had pulled a
ribbon out of his pocket and was waving it in the air around his
friend, entertaining her with the way it gracefully fluttered in the
air.

Wind stared at the older hero for a second, then lit up, bouncing on his toes with stars in his eyes.

“Wow, really? I didn’t know you could understand animals out of wolf form!”

Twilight chuckled, ruffling the younger’s hair.

“Aww shucks, I ain’t as cool as all that. I can’t actually understand
what he’s saying, I just caught his meaning, if ya know what I mean.”

Marie could do little more than laugh loudly as Sparky appropriately babied her. Well, she could try and grab the end of his hat, but that quickly became a fool’s errand.

Cat Slime, meanwhile, hopped over as Marie tried to reach for the ribbon, trying to reach it himself. He leaped back and forth, being careful not to hit the baby, but he wanted to show off a little, too.

He briefly stopped to get a closer look at the blue blob.

“Mi?”

“Meh! Meh meh!” Marie said, reaching out to grab one of Cat Slime’s ears.

Cat Slime squirmed under her grip. It was lucky he was a Slime, and could therefore stretch, or the surprisingly strong baby would have seriously hurt. Still,he gently squeaked, asking her to stop. It was going to take forever to get himself back into his perfectly cute look again if he was stretched any more…

“Oh,
uh… I’m Mecchan.” Mecchan explained. “Yeah, I know how magic works. And
it’s a long story for how I ended up getting here and I have no idea
how I’m gonna get back, but basically a friend of mine, who had
inherited his grandfather’s science labs decided to make an
extradimensional portal. It’s… got some bugs.”

Mecchan sighed. “Sorry if this is too much for you guys. If you can’t help me, I understand.”

“Oh, one of those?” the Repairman sighed. “Yeah, that sounds about right.”

Marie saw Mecchan’s confusion, and her own eyes turned to those of worry.

“No, no,” the inkblot said, reassuringly, “I can help you home, I think. Can you tell me your world?”

The three ghosts tracked the sagging ink blot with their eyes, following the slow descent. The baby paint blot blinked huge eyes up at them. The three ghosts blinked back.

“Hmmm… you know, I’m pretty sure Vio’s got a good glamour spell. He could just… make our shades look like our regular selves. Then we wouldn’t freak Marie out or freeze her on accident.”

“Now that’s usin’ yer noggin!” Twilight praised. He then lifted his hat, where Buttercup had been hiding. “Hey Buttercup, think ya could get Vio fer us?”

The little luma saluted “Aye aye, captain!” and zipped off to places unknown.

Approximately ten minutes later, three magicked-into-not-freaky-looking-forms shades had scooped Inky onto a cot taken from the ink blot’s toolbox, and were either quietly patching the cracks in the general vicinity (they’d catch hell from Inky later, for sure, but the poor blot needed his rest and someone needed to do it) or were gently bouncing the baby paint spatter around while she giggled.

Snap.

Cat Slime got a good picture of Marie on a sleeping Repairman

Snap.

Of the Link ghosts hovering over her, keeping eye contact with her.

Snap.

Of Marie giggling as she was bounced by the glamoured ghosts.

He soon looked up from his photography, however, to squeak and ask if Marie was okay. She seemed like it, but it was good to make sure.

“Mi mi?”

“Meh! Meh mah!” Marie imitated Cat Slime, cheerfully.

And so Cat Slime gestured towards the ghosts, asking to come up to meet her.

M!A Epilogue

The two blobs came to a few moments later.

Marie rubbed the side of her head, getting up off the Repairman.

“…Wha…what was that about? Why were you trying to hold me…?”

The Repairman got up, smoothing himself out.

“You don’t remember? I spent the last week taking care of you…”

“Come on, now, Repairman. What happened?”

“…What do you remember…?”

“…Well, something about a magic floating bucket…that’s about it.”

The Repairman was about to speak, but thought better of it. She still wouldn’t believe him without proof. Instead he went over to Cat Slime, who was putting the last few pictures into a normal-sized album. Being six inches tall, it was no small feat to work without damaging any of the photos.

“Hey, Cat Slime, can I see that?”

Cat Slime squeaked, happy the Repairman was interested in his photography.

He went back to Marie, who was mumbling to herself about forgetting the entire past week, and the two of them looked through the album together. It was full of many, many pictures of a baby Marie, being held by the Repairman, playing with Cat Slime, them interacting with others, Marie playing meticulously with blocks…

“Yeah, the dust from that bucket turned you into a baby. Anon magic, I think.”

Marie flushed, eyes darting across the pages.

“Y-you mean…?“

The Repairman noticed her shaking, and gently plucked the scissors from her hand.

“Yeah, but really, most people we talk to know about Anon Magic, so they understood. Don’t worry about it, okay?”

Marie looked her brother straight in the eye.

“Fine. But the thing stays hidden. Got it?”

The Repairman sighed.

“Fine. It’ll be with Cat Slime, okay?”

Cat Slime, for his part, took the album and left to hide it deep in his house.

“Right,” the Repairman said, “that’s that. Back to work?”

“Back to work!”

They left, but Marie briefly hurried back to pick up the book that was on the ground. The Little Octopus in the Little Cove. She smiled as she looked at the cover, as if she saw an old friend. Huh. It was only a moment until she packed the book away in her hammerspace, but she wondered if it was a sense of nostalgia. An odd sensation when you were drawn less than a year ago.

Mecchan looked around. Yep, the portal was definitely broken. She had no idea where she was. Wusiji Labs could work on their extradimensional travel tech. “Hello? Is anyone there? I have no idea where I am!” (thefoilverse)

The Repairman still had to take care of a baby Marie, and Cat Slime was still there with a Polaroid camera. The Repairman gently rocked Marie back and forth, feeding her formula from a bottle. It was, thankfully, in the Baby TV district of Toontown, so it was a calmer, friendlier place.

And then he heard a voice that wasn’t soothing, or a baby. In fact, it sounded like an issue. He headed over to find the source of the voice before she could disturb any of the Toon infants here. The last thing anyone needed was a chain reaction…

“Hello,” he called out, softly as he could, “I’m here. Please keep it down, there are kids sleeping.”

Marie added to that with a coo.
