He
tilted his head at the two, awkwardly scratching his cheek. Did that
guy just take a fishbowl out of no where…? Well maybe it was just
suspended in his goopy body? Well, they were interesting for sure. but
definitely harmless, though he wasn’t going to let his guard down too much. Ganon had eyes everywhere.

“Uh,
I don’t think so. I think I would remember some little guys that look
like you-” Link immediately looked apologetic, “Ah- sorry, I didn’t mean
it in a rude way! It’s just that you both look really interesting.
Though, she did mention heroes. Maybe you’re thinking of the legends? ‘A
hero garbed in green, reborn when Hyrule needs him most’? I guess I
kind of ask for that association when I wear something like this. You
might have seen a painting in a book.

Link was not going to tell them that he was the hero, as declared by the princess.

“…Sounds about right,” the Repairman nodded. “Sorry, we’re not really from around here, so…”

Marie nodded in agreement, and her eye caught the fishbowl. She picked it up and extended it to the hero “lookalike”.

“Well, whoever you are,” she beamed, “I think you made quite a catch today! Thanks for getting ou–his toolbox!”

Her bow seemed to droop a little in that last part, but she didn’t notice. Obviously, unlike them, he was fishing for, well, fish, so it’d only be right that he gets what he wanted.

Link heard someone call for him when he came up for air and glanced back, floating in the water.

“Yeah,
actually!” he replied, holding the box over his head. They were looking
for it? Maybe it wasn’t a treasure chest then. He’d definitely never
seen one like it. Swimming to their side of the shore, he got out of the
water and set it on the ground.

Well, they were certainly some
interesting looking folks…Somewhere between a zol and a bot. These guys
were sentient though, and didn’t seem to be harmful in anyway. One of
them even had a cute bow on her head.

The Repairman sighed in relief. He wouldn’t have to get new tools. Marie, too, sighed in relief, but only because it meant they wouldn’t have to fish anymore.

“Thanks,” the Repairman said, gratefully taking the box. He opened it, revealing several small fish flopping on top of his various unorganized tools

Without thinking, he pulled a fishbowl from his hammerspace and scooped the fish (as well as plenty of excess water) into it. Putting it aside, he did a quick check to make sure everything was okay. Finally, he looked back up at the Hylian.

Boy, he looked familiar. Almost like…oh. One of the Heroes…

“Hey,” Marie began to remark, “you look like one of those ghommph!”

The Repairman had quickly cupped a hand over where her mouth would have been.

“Aha, what she meant to say was, you look like someone we know. Have we met?”

He chuckled nervously, gently removing his hand. Marie glared at her brother, but said nothing.

Link was caught off guard by the sudden tug on the line that he went
face first into the muddy shallows, fishing pole flying out of his hand.

“What- No- Wait-!” he couldn’t lose that! It was the best one he’d gotten! And it cost so many rupees!”

Quickly
he dived in  to grab the handle to the pole, only to be tugged again.
This was no ordinary fish- It had to be something massive. That’s it. He
was going to have to get this thing the hard way, and get his
rod back. Link pulled out a small knife and dove under the water,
searching for the fish, only to find two fishing hooks around a…treasure
chest? He, pulled off the hooks and grabbed it and came up for air.
Maybe there would be some big amount of rupees in it??

Marie, hearing a splash, reflexively looked up towards the river, but saw nothing. However, she did notice that there was much less pull. She relaxed. Finally, she could reel it in for the Repairman, no problem…

Speaking of the Repairman, he was still rather dazed, but he had risen to a standing position, gently swaying.

Thank you, please come again…”

Marie watched him with concern as she continued reeling, until the hook came out of the water. It was not only bereft of a toolbox, but it was also missing the magnet somehow. Frantically, she shook her brother back to consciousness.

“Ugh, not so hard,” the Repairman mumbled, his eyes blinking back to normal. They sprung to the size of dinner plates when he caught sight of the empty fishing rod.

“What hap–”

“I don’t know, I reeled and then it fell…” Marie tried to explain, before falling silent. She hoped to triumphantly hand him the toolbox, but no such luck.

The Repairman sighed, shaking his head.

“All right, let’s just try it again…” He gave her an encouraging smile. “Not your fault…”

Then he spied (he presumed) a Hylian in the river.

“Uh…Hello there!” he called out. “Did you see a red metal box in there?”

Link felt a sharp tug on his line and paused before trying to quickly
reel it in. Damn it was really really strong! Maybe a huge fish for him
to eat! Man that would be really great, actually! The more he tugged,
the harder it pulled, and it was like a war of wills.

“Come on–”
he grunted as he reached the end of his line, now he just needed full
force to pull this fish out. Link planted his feet in the dirt and used
all the muscle strength he had.

The Repairman chanced a look down, eyes widening as he realized he and Marie were still nearing the water. A strong, sudden tug from the line told him it wasn’t exactly going to slow down, either.

He grunted and pulled, but to no avail. He was going to fall in.

Marie opened one eye and also saw they were losing ground. Desperately, she yanked as hard as she could. The force sent the Repairman flying back several feet, landing with a splat!

“…Please keep your hands and arms inside the ride at all times…” he droned, eyes swirling and stars circling his head.

Marie sighed with relief. They had more ground now, it looked like they were making progress, and neither of their blobby forms would fall into the water.

Link hummed as he fished in the river, waiting for a catch. It probably would have been easier to buy some fish at the market in town earlier in the daybut he really didn’t have the rupees for it. All he had was maybe 20 rupees in total, and that was definitely not enough for a meal. Most meats cost 150 rupees, or more, especially if it was red meat. There was so little to go around in Hyrule that he usually just resorted to fishing. Sometimes he got sick of it but well, if you’re hungry and it’s free, why not? Food is food.

Of course, he had to fish at night, in the day time, the Zora were out and about and ready to drag him down into the depths as their own personal entree. So here he sat, fire crackling next to him and hoping something would bite onto his empty hook. Preferably soon.

On the other side of the river, two blobs were also looking into the water.

“…C’mon,” Marie protested, “can’t we just get different tools-”

I spent over sixty years getting all of those,” the Repairman replied, irritably shifting his grip on the fishing pole. “I’m getting my stuff back!”

Luckily, only the red toolbox fell into the water. Not only was Cat Slime safely in the blue toolbox, but so was a fishing rod and an oversized horseshoe magnet. It was only a matter of time before he had to see how many fish he’d have to evict from his tools.

Twang!

It felt like the magnet caught on something! The Repairman pulled back, reeling as hard as he could, but he seemed to be having trouble as he slid closer to the edge. Marie grabbed him, and together they yanked hard.
