Rocky understood he was trying avoiding that subject, and decided to ignore the whole thing and go straight to next one.

“Well,
things’ve been doin’ fine here ‘round Frostbite Falls; those Dreamworks
folks have been treatin’ us better than I thought they would…”

image

“…but
I’m not sure whatcha mean by over ten years. Didja’ forget our short
film from three years back? Heck, I think the fourth wall cracks are
still there, even.”

Rocky points at the wall, and indeed there were a few cracks, aswell as some dust and spiderwebs surrounding it.

“Dreamworks, huh?” the Repairman echoed, casually slapping a Band-Aid over that small crack.

“Whoa, what?!” he exclaimed, rapidly turning to face the neglected cracks. “How did–?”

He sighed. No point whining or making excuses.

“Well, I guess I gotta get this thing checked,” he muttered, unscrewing the bulb from his siren light and setting it aside. He began to dig for a feather duster, but someone tapped on his shoulder.

Marie held the duster in one hand and pointed to the Wall with the other. The cracks were still there, but she left the Wall sparkling clean there.

The Repairman jumped back, startled.

“I…I thought you were looking out for those spies!”

“There are no spies to see,” Marie replied, irritably. “Just…thought I’d help out here a little…”

The
cosmic princess shook her head in reassurance; she can understand the
repairer’s response for why he refused her kind offer. “But you did not
offend me at all, dear sir. I can see that this is your responsibility.
Perhaps I shouldn’t have to interfere your work even if I am eager to
help you.”

The Repairman nodded, happy that she understood.

“Yeah…thanks for offering though.”

After finally patching the Wall up, he looked up at the spires on Rosalina’s ship.

“…I gotta say,” he remarked, “you and your Lumas are quite the skilled craftspeople!”

His wandering eyes fell back to the boards he just put up, and he couldn’t help comparing that to the ship. Yeah, the planks would fade to blend in soon enough, but still

“…you really are,” he said, still in awe, but quieter.

“Can’t you just squint or close them? Problem solved.” Ace grinned, taking some of the meat away from the fire. He wrapped it in some bread with lettuce and beans and took a bite.
“I’d offer you some, but I wasn’t planning on company…” He apologized to the repairman, silently wondering if he even ate.

“Eh, that’s all right,” he shrugged. “I don’t really eat much anyhow.”

He considered the suggestion for a moment. It did make sense…

To make sure, he pulled a mirror from his hammerspace and began to look at himself. He tried squinting, winking, blinking incredibly fast, rolling his eyes… Nothing seemed to work. His eyes were still visible, even if they were just outlines.

“Wait a minute,” he realized. “Am I the only one who’s eyes are easy to see in the dark?”

If he was, then maybe no one would want to bother him…
