[[More salt, eh…? How about the fact I’m irritated at the lack of UNsympathetic villains these days?
Why can’t we enjoy characters who are evil and love every second of it anymore? Why do they have to fall under the “Draco in Leather Pants” trope all the time now? Let villains go all the way monstrous sometimes, please!
Frankly, I blame the moral panic of “if you like this fictional bad guy then you’re a bad person too”! Which is, if you ask me, stupid. Fiction is not reality.
Don’t get me wrong, I love me some more sympathetic bad guys from time to time, but when it’s literally all we have these days…
I just think when JUMPSCARING KILLER ANIMATRONICS have the excuse of “possessed by the ghosts of murdered children, it’s okay, they’re not really villains,” it’s time to dial it back and remember you don’t need to have sympathy for a character to enjoy them. You can, but it’s not a requirement.]]
